When Eric Hay of Dover felt the warning signs of a heart attack on a recent Sunday morning, his wife rushed him to the Union Hospital Emergency Room. “I thought I just had an upset stomach, but the pain got so bad, I knew something was wrong,” said Eric.
After quick testing and a heart attack diagnosis, the Union staff stabilized Eric and made arrangements for emergency heart surgery. Back in Dover, Eric entered the UH cardiac rehabilitation program, resuming his rich life with his family and returning to his job at Wayne’s Auto Sales.
“I had great care,” he said. “Union has a great staff. They saved my life.”
“Our ER physicians are specialists, trained in emergency medicine,” said Dr. Joel Lehman of Strasburg, who has worked in Union’s Emergency Department for 14 years. “We have the latest life support training. And, we have top of the line equipment, excellent nurses and a well trained staff.”
Dawn White, a Registered Nurse from Coshocton, says everyone in the department shares a sincere commitment to helping people. “It’s rewarding,” she said, “when we have a critically ill patient but we are able to have a really good outcome.”
“Thanks to Union Hospital,” echoed Eric Hay, “I’m here today.”
No wonder Union has been ranked among the top 5% of all hospitals in the nation for Emergency Medicine, receiving HealthGrades’® top 5-star rating.
