Support Groups

Support Groups are a very important part of modern healthcare. And Union Hospital is continuously expanding our list of groups for patients, family members and caregivers.

Support Groups currently hosted by Union Hospital include:

ALS Family Support Group of Ohio, Inc.
The ALS Family Support Group of Ohio, Inc. is an all-volunteer organization whose mission is to provide aid and support to victims of ALS and other neuromuscular discorders, their families and caregivers. Our support group meetings are free and open to the public. Different speakers provide a wide range of subjects.
Meetings: Third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Union Hospital Reeves Auditorium.

Alzheimer's Association Support Group
This group is open to caregivers, family members and friends of persons with memory loss. The group is discussion-oriented, and topics are flexible, depending on the needs of the group's members. Guest speakers and relevant videos are occasionally presented.
Meetings: Third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Union Hospital Reeves Auditorium (South).

Bariatric Treatment Support Group
This group is for patients who have had gastric bypass surgery at Barix Clinic and their families. Meetings provide information about living better and coping with the daily requirements following surgery.

Chronic Pain Support Group
Those with chronic pain and their families are welcome to attend these meetings. Meetings include group discussions, guest speakers and educational information related to medications, pain management, chronic pain conditions and treatment options.
Meetings: Second Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the Union Hospital Conference Room 1043.

Diabetes Support Group
This monthly meeting welcomes anybody with diabetes or friends and family members who care for a person with diabetes. Learn about blood sugar values, exercise, use of testing meters, diet and nutrition, and many other topics. Meetings are hosted by Union Hospital's diabetes educators and some programs include speakers.

"Look Good, Feel Better" - American Cancer Society Program
This is a free national program for women undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatments. The National Cosmetology Association, The American Cancer Society, and the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association partner to help with the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. Those attending this program receive a complementary make-up kit.

Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) Support Group
This group is led by members of the Union Hospital Pain Management Center and provides psychological support for RSD patients and families. The group also provides education about RSD and how it affects patients and their families. Meetings include discussion of coping with pain and limitations associated with RSD. Some programs feature a guest speaker.
