What Are Sleep Disorders?

  • Chronic Insomnia is the inability to fall asleep or remain asleep.

  • Sleep Apnea is a condition in which breathing stops many times a night for periods up to two minutes. Loud snoring and excessive daytime sleepiness may be symptoms of sleep apnea.

  • Narcolepsy is a disorder which causes a person to fall asleep suddenly many times a day, often at inappropriate times.

  • Restless Leg Syndrome is a disorder that causes a "crawling" sensation in the legs when you lie down to sleep.
  • Snoring is often nothing more than a nuisance. Frequent or loud snoring can be a sign of obstructive sleep apnea.

  • Periodic Limb Movement Disorder causes your arms or legs to jerk repeatedly during sleep, resulting in your feeling tired during the day.

  • Sleepwalking is a sequence of behaviors that can cause a person to get out of bed and walk without full consciousness.
