Sonography is a non-invasive imaging tool that does not use radiation but high frequency sound waves to generate images of the body.

Union Hospital was among the first hospitals in Ohio to install digital mammography technology. Patients like digital imaging because of the faster exam times and fewer callbacks for additional images.

Union Hospital's Radiology Department offers most of the major technologies available today to create high-quality images for the diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury. Among the imaging methods available are:
X-ray
- Bone densitometry
- Computed tomography (CT)
- Fluoroscopy
- Interventional Radiology
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Mammography
- Nuclear medicine
- PET scanning
- Ultrasound
MRI Services
Since MRI service was first provided at Union Hospital in 1987, it has grown into a separate, permanent structure on the campus, providing service to nearly 4,000 patients annually. The 1.5 Tesla General Electric MRI Scanner provides superior imaging quality and shorter scanning times. It is one of the most sophisticated imaging systems available at any hospital in the region.
Mammography Center
Screening mammography is offered by our digital mammography system, one of the first digital systems in the State of Ohio. The digital mammography system has greatly reduced the wait for an appointment from months to days. The digital equipment produces an image in only 10 seconds, making the exam process much faster than traditional methods. Patients will be put through fewer retakes and have less time to wait for results of their exam. Our Mammography Center is accredited by the FDA and the American College of Radiologists. Currently, technologists see patients from 8:00 am to 7:45 pm Monday through Friday, as well as Saturday mornings.
