The Union Hospital UH TECH Program has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Ashton Hall of Dover.

“Ashton was the top qualifier in all aspects of the competitive application process,” said Holly Ripple, Development & Community Relations Coordinator and chairperson of the UH TECH Coordinating Committee. “Ashton’s academic achievements, a great mix of extracurricular activities, his service as a UH Volunteer, and a compelling essay were outstanding as we considered the scholarship applications.”

UH TECH is “Teens Exploring Careers in Healthcare.” Hospital staff direct the program and plan an annual Career Camps each winter. Area high school students explore many different healthcare career opportunities during the programs in January, February, and March.   UH TECH offers hands-on career learning experiences for local high school students to encourage healthcare career choices.

“The UH TECH Career Program had a great influence on my decision on a career field,” he said. “I had a great experience with the UH TECH Program as well as volunteering at Union Hospital.”

The son of Jason and Kelly Hall of Dover, Hall graduated this spring from Dover High School, and plans to attend Miami University in Oxford, Ohio to study pre-med biology. The scholarship is awarded annually to a participating UH TECH student who meets scholarship, leadership and participation requirements and plans to continue their education for a career in healthcare.

“Choosing Ashton for the UH TECH scholarship is very rewarding for all of us because it fulfills the mission of the program which is to inspire a new generation of superior students to pursue a healthcare career,” Ripple added. “All of the applicants were excellent candidates and the choice was very difficult.”

This is the sixth year that Union Hospital has awarded a scholarship to a graduating senior from UH TECH who also excelled academically, participated in extracurricular activities, and presented a compelling essay describing their plans to pursue a career in a healthcare profession.

Ripple said the next UH TECH Career Camp will be offered January through March 2016. All high school students are welcome to consider attending any or all three camps. Details will be provided soon to all the area high schools to share with students.
