White Velvet Desserts of Strasburg received awards from both the celebrity judges and the attendees for preparing the favorite chocolate treat during the Union Hospital Auxiliary’s annual “Chocolate Love A’fair” held Saturday at Buckeye Career Center at New Philadelphia.
White Velvet’s “Chocolate Salted Caramel Cheesecake Trifle” was one of the samples offered by 22 local chefs and bakeries to 400 ticketholders during the event, which is a fund-raiser for the UH Auxiliary. All proceeds from the Chocolate Love A’fair are used to buy patient care equipment and improve facilities at Union Hospital.
“I am always amazed by and gracious for the outpouring of support from the participants and the people who buy tickets and enjoy the Chocolate Love A’fair every year,” said Lynn Ballantyne of Dover, who serves as the chair of the event for the UH Auxiliary. “It takes a lot of dedicated volunteers to put on this event, and the Auxiliary and Union Hospital are very grateful to everyone who participated and attended.”
Gift baskets, gift certificates, desserts and other items donated by local restaurants and businesses also were auctioned off during the event.
Attendees had the opportunity to vote on their favorite chocolate dessert in the “People’s Choice Award” while local celebrity judges were on hand for the “Judge’s Choice Award.” The celebrity judges included Jerry Marlowe of Dover, along with Union Hospital staff members Angela Eggleston, Darwin Smith and Stacee Wise.
Ticketholders receive one sample dessert from each of the participating exhibitors.
The chocolate-themed desserts that were offered for sampling were prepared by the following chefs, bakeries and chocolatiers:
