Union Hospital in Dover has been named to the list of the “100 Great Community Hospitals” by Becker’s Hospital Review, a monthly publication of business and legal news for hospital executives in the U.S. In making the announcement, Becker’s said the community hospitals included on the list all have fewer than 550 beds, are non-teaching hospitals, and are located in urban, suburban, and rural areas of the U.S.
“Being named to Becker’s list of the best community hospitals in the nation is a tribute to the hard work, skill, and compassion of our medical staff and more than 1,000 employees,” said Carey Gardner, director of community relations at Union Hospital. “This is the latest honor to come to Union Hospital in recent years following recognition for clinical quality, patient safety, and patient satisfaction from Healthgrades, Consumer Reports, and U.S. News and World Report.
Gardner says the Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on rankings and awards received from iVantage Health Analytics, Truven Health Analytics, CareChex and the American Hospital Association. These organizations gather data and rank hospital performance based on their clinical performance, patient safety record, patient satisfaction, and patient outcomes.
“Becker’s Hospital Review does not charge hospitals to be considered for this award nor can a hospital pay to be included on this list,” Gardner added. “Achieving certification as a Primary Stroke Center earlier this year and now being added to the list of the nation’s top community hospitals is further evidence that Union Hospital is offering this community a high quality local option for its healthcare needs.”
