The Union Hospital Auxiliary has done it again.
For the fifth consecutive year, the all-volunteer and independent Auxiliary has presented an annual donation to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital of $200,000 or more.
During its annual luncheon held Monday (April 16), the Auxiliary presented a check for $220,000 to hospital officials, bringing its all-time donation total to the hospital to more than $4.2 million since it organization in 1949. In the past five years alone, the Auxiliary has donated a total of more than $1 million ($1,081,147) to the hospital.
“This Auxiliary made history in 2017 when it reached $4 million in donations and then didn’t rest one bit, because we turned right around and started working just as hard again for this year’s donation,” said Susan Mosher, president of the Auxiliary. “I am so thankful for everyone who gives of their time and talents for the success of the Auxiliary.”
Bruce James, president and CEO of Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, praised the Auxiliary for its dedication to the hospital.
“You are the backbone to the hospital and our organization with your support and dedication,” James said. “I am impressed over and over each year with how much all of you give to us to ensure that we provide high quality healthcare in our community.”
Fund-raising events conducted by the Auxiliary over the course of the past year generate the amount donated annually to the hospital. The Auxiliary’s donation has supported facilities improvements and the purchase of patient care equipment at the hospital over the years.
Mosher said that the donation this year is being dedicated for the purchase of the following patient care equipment:
Robert Horn, president of the Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital Board of Directors, said his message to the Auxiliary is always the same – a message of thanks.
“I think volunteers are the lifeblood to an important community institution like our hospital,” Horn said. “All I can say is thank you to each and every one of you.”
Mosher also introduced chairpersons of each fund-raising committee who oversee the work of each individual project. Others honored were the People’s Choice winners from the annual Chocolate Love A’fair event in February and the Warther’s Christmas Tree Festival held each November.
The Auxiliary conducts numerous fund-raising events held annually including the Chocolate Love A’fair, Tea in the Garden, Hanging Basket Sale, Rummage Sale, Warther’s Christmas Tree Festival, Poinsettia Sale and Vera Bradley Bingo, along with other projects. The Auxiliary also operates the Corner Shop gift shop located just inside the entrance to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital.
