Union Hospital has announced the award of its 8th annual $1,000 UH TECH scholarship to Shariyah Mansuri of Uhrichsville.
Mansuri is the daughter of Brian Wolfe and Rumana Mansuri of Uhrichsville and is attending Stark State College of Technology and plans to attend the University of Toledo.
“The UH TECH Career Program had a great influence on my decision on a career field,” Mansuri said. “I have had a great experience with the UH TECH Program as well as volunteering at Union Hospital.”
UH TECH stands for “Teens Exploring Careers in Healthcare.” Union Hospital staff plans the program and conducts an annual Career Camp each winter. Area high school students explore many different healthcare career opportunities during the program.
Holly (Ripple) Hillyer, development and community relations coordinator at the hospital and chair for the UH TECH program, said graduating seniors who attend the program are encouraged to apply for the scholarship in the spring if they will be continuing their education for a healthcare career.
“Shariyah was the top qualifier in all aspects of the competitive application process,” Hillyer said. “Shariyah’s academic achievements, a great mix of extracurricular activities, leadership and volunteer services in our local community, along with attendance at every UH TECH event since she started high school made her the top contender among the scholarship applicants.
“Choosing Shariyah for the UH TECH scholarship is very rewarding for all of us because it fulfills the mission of the program which is to inspire a new generation of superior students to pursue a healthcare career,” Hillyer added. “All of the applicants were excellent candidates and the choice was very difficult.”
Hillyer said the next UH TECH program will begin in January at Union Hospital. Details will be provided this fall to all the area high schools to share with students.
