It’s the recognized kickoff to the holiday season in the Tuscarawas Valley.
It’s also an important project of the Union Hospital Auxiliary.
“It,” of course, is the 24th Annual Union Hospital Auxiliary “Warther’s Christmas Tree Festival” scheduled from Nov. 11 (Saturday) through Nov. 19 (Sunday) at Warther’s Carvings in Dover, located at 331 Karl Ave. Daily hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. except on the festival’s final day on Nov. 19, when it closes at 5 p.m.
The admission price is only $5 for adults, while children younger than 12 are admitted for free. All tickets are sold at the door.
Connie Finton of New Philadelphia, the chair for the event from the UH Auxiliary, said that even after 23 years of previous festivals, she still is amazed by the creative designs of the Christmas trees in the festival.
“Just when I think we’ve seen every possible Christmas tree theme or variation, some new amazing and beautiful Christmas trees arrive for the festival,” Finton said. “The creativity and artistry of the designers has to be seen to be believed.”
The primary corporate sponsor of the event again this year is Huntington Bank, while the room sponsors include Dover Hydraulics Inc., Parkway Auto Group and WTUZ Radio.
The Christmas trees in the festival are all for sale, too, as are many wreaths, holiday arrangements and the entire lobby display during the festival inside Warther’s Carvings museum. Finton said that after the festival closes, the smaller trees and arrangements will be available for pickup by the buyer on Nov. 20 and 21, while the larger trees will be delivered to buyers on those same days.
In addition, tickets also are available for the festival “Preview Party” that will be held Nov. 10 (Friday) from 6 to 9 p.m. Those attending the Preview Party will receive a special ornament designed and handcrafted by Dan Warther (and sponsored by Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover), have an opportunity to see the trees and participate in a fund-raising auction of specially prepared cutlery, jewelry and furniture. Tickets cost $75 each for the Preview Party and can be purchased on the Auxiliary page on the hospital website at www.unionhospital.org, in person at Pam’s Posies in downtown Dover or by calling Jen at Pam’s Posies at (330) 340-5611.
Finton said the festival’s success is a tribute to the hard work of the members of the UH Auxiliary, the support of the sponsors and the thousands of people who come to see the trees and purchase them.
“In addition to the many businesses, organizations and professionals who sponsor the Christmas trees, we are very grateful to the Huntington Bank, which again is our primary corporate sponsor, and our room sponsors which include Dover Hydraulics, Parkway Auto Group and WTUZ Radio,” Finton said.
Senior Day at the festival will be Nov. 13 (Monday) and is sponsored by The Inn at Northwood Village at Dover. Seniors ages 60 and over will be admitted at half price that day to enjoy the trees and refreshments.
The popular Children’s Tree Decorating Workshops will be held Nov. 18 (Saturday) with sessions scheduled at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Warther’s. The cost is $25 per child and the workshops are sponsored by Hawk Family Dental Care at New Philadelphia. Reservations for the tree decorating workshops are required and can be made by calling the Union Hospital Community Relations office at (330) 364-0884.
Proceeds from the Christmas Tree Festival are donated by the Auxiliary to Union Hospital for the purchase of patient care equipment and facility improvements.
