Having a baby is very rewarding – and a lot of work to prepare for, too.
As any parent knows, planning for a baby is important and takes time. Decisions have to be made about everything from selecting a doctor for prenatal care and delivery to choosing the right type of diapers.
Union Hospital hopes to provide new parents and parents-to-be a head start on the questions and answers by bringing “all things baby” together when the hospital’s Maternity Center hosts its 5th Annual Baby Fair on Nov. 11 (Saturday) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the UH Cafeteria. More than 20 exhibitors will participate by providing information and answering questions, along with free samples, giveaways, door prizes and guided tours of the UH Maternity Center.
“There will be something for everyone,” said Debra Fair, RN, manager of the hospital Maternity Center. “We again have invited exhibitors representing a broad spectrum of parenting and baby-related products and services that will appeal to a wide variety of interests and needs.”
Fair said one of the highlights of the Baby Fairs are the guided tours of the hospital’s Maternity Center.
“If you are new to the area or have not visited our Maternity Center in recent years you may be surprised by the spacious rooms and amenities our Maternity Center offers,” Fair said.
The Maternity Center was expanded and completely remodeled several years ago and now includes spacious, private rooms designed for the comfort of the entire family. Furnishings in each room include a sleeper sofa for the support person and an upholstered rocking chair.
The Maternity Center includes a custom decorated nursery, an expanded area for testing during pregnancy, and offers childbirth education and breastfeeding classes for all mothers delivering at the hospital.
