The Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at Union Hospital is focused on helping its patients recover in a caring environment and return to their normal activities and everyday lives as soon as possible.
The accrediting body CARF International (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) has recognized the program and it staff by awarding it a three-year accreditation, the first the UH Inpatient Rehabilitation Center has received since it opened in 2008.
“Each patient has different needs and we work to ensure that our program directly addresses what they require to recover effectively and quickly,” said Kent Swarny, director of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Center. “Our staff consists of trained professionals who are dedicated to providing the care necessary to meet individual needs in an environment that promotes wellness, confidence and independence.
“We are very proud to have earned this accreditation and inform our patients and the community that they can have confidence their needs will be met here.”
The recognition represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization and shows its conformance to CARF standards. The UH Inpatient Rehabilitation Center put itself through a rigorous peer review process, demonstrating to a team of CARF surveyors during an onsite visit its commitment to offering programs and services that are measurable, accountable and of the highest quality.
The Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at Union Hospital services patients who have experienced a range of medical conditions and/or are recovering from surgery, including stroke, hip fracture, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, brain surgery or injury, spinal cord injury or surgery, neurologic disorders, amputation, cardiac conditions and other debilitating illness or injury. Patients also benefit from the availability of hospital services.
The Inpatient Rehabilitation Center has assisted more than 85 percent of its patients in their return to their homes, well above the national average of 70 percent. Details about the Center and its programs is available on the hospital website at www.unionhospital.org.
CARF is an independent, non-profit accrediting body with a mission to promote the quality, value and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of the persons served.
