State Rep. Al Landis and Dover Mayor Richard Homrighausen are ready to “Walk With a Doc” at Dover City Park.
Union Hospital’s Community Health and Wellness program will host its next “Walk With a Doc” free monthly walking program events at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, beginning at Deis Hill.
The walk, which is part of a nationally recognized community walking program, will be led by Dr. Aruna Rao, MD, of Union Hospital, along with Rep. Landis and Mayor Homrighausen.
Walkers will enjoy a refreshing and rejuvenating walk along the walking trail inside the park.
No registration is required, the event is for walkers of any age and there is absolutely no cost to attend. Healthy snacks and water will be available, and free blood-pressure checks also will be featured.
Dr. Rao, the medical director of the Inpatient Rehabilitation and Occupational Medicine services at Union Hospital, also will provide a brief health-related discussion and will be available to answer questions and encourage participants.
Walk With a Doc is a national non-profit organization with a mission to encourage healthy physical activity in people of all ages, and reverse the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle in order to improve the health and well-being of the country. Future walk dates will be announced by the hospital and on the Walk With a Doc website at www.walkwithadoc.org.
Other healthcare professionals, public officials and others will be part of upcoming walks, which normally will be held the first Saturday of each month at 9 a.m. at locations around the county. The June walk, however, will be held on Wednesday, June 8, at 5 p.m. at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds at Dover as a part of the Tuscarawas County Farmers Market.
