The move of the Emergency Department at Union Hospital into the new UH Lauren Emergency Center this week also will produce changes to the entrance and available parking areas for arriving patients effective this Thursday (March 17).
All patients will enter the new Lauren Emergency Center through a single entrance located behind the main hospital building with a reserved patient parking area immediately beside the entrance. Valet service will continue to be available at the new entrance and valet ambassadors will be present to assist arriving patients into the Emergency Center and reception area.
The current ER entrance will be closed on Thursday and a fence has been installed to seal off the parking lot and entrance, making them inaccessible.
The iconic red “EMERGENCY” sign will be moved to the new Emergency Center entrance to help increase visibility for the new entrance. Signs will be posted throughout the hospital campus to assist arriving patients in locating both the new Lauren Emergency Center and the parking lot beside it.
Patients turning off the Boulevard onto either Hospital Dr. (at the traffic lights) or Medical Park Dr. at the hospital can reach the patient parking lot and new Emergency Center entrance.
The new entrance to the Lauren Emergency Center will be in use for an estimated four months while final construction work is completed to refurbish the current exterior ER entrance and a portion of the current Emergency Department space inside the hospital. Once the work is completed this summer, all patients arriving by private vehicle will return to using the current ER entrance and parking lot, with the Emergency Center entrance behind the hospital being reserved for use by emergency vehicles only.
