Large color posters featuring high school students urging other students to “Find Balance”, “Get Active”, and “Be a Good Sport” are displayed in four area school district buildings this school year. They are the products of the Be a Healthy You Rockstar project, now it its third year.
The Healthy You Rockstar project is sponsored by the Union Hospital Community Health and Wellness Department and Solid Rock Photos in Dover. Each poster features several high school students delivering a message that models a healthy behavior. The posters are displayed in the high school, middle school, and elementary buildings in the participating districts of New Philadelphia, Dover, Tusky Valley, and Indian Valley.
“The principals in the schools select the students to be featured in these posters,” according to Carey Gardner, director of community relations. “Photographer Denny Trimmer takes the pictures and produces very creative poster designs that convey a great message.”
Gardner says the students photographed for the posters are well-known and respected by their peers and by students in the middle and elementary schools. “It’s peer pressure of a very positive nature that we hope will influence younger students to emulate the behaviors of the “rockstars” featured in the posters.”
