Union Hospital has done it again when it comes to promoting healthy lifestyle habits for its 1,100 employees.
The hospital’s employee wellness program again has earned the Ohio Department of Health’s (ODH) “Gold Award” in the 2015 Healthy Ohio Healthy Worksites awards program. Union Hospital is one of only 12 Gold Award recipients in the large employer category, and one of only 68 Ohio employers who are being honored overall.
“Union Hospital continues to invest in the health of its employees by offering, supporting and encouraging participation in various programs that promote and encourage healthy lifestyles and behaviors,” said Kimberly Nathan, Union Hospital’s Director of Employee Health Services and WorkWell Occupational Medicine. “It’s humbling to receive this award again this year, but we want it to serve as evidence to our staff and the community that we are invested in the health of our employees, who care for our community.”
Union Hospital provides various programs throughout the year to staff members, including smoking cessation, free health risk assessments, personal wellness coaches and programs, and brown bag mini-workshops that focus health topics.
The awards recognize Ohio employers that demonstrate a commitment to employee wellness through comprehensive worksite health promotion and wellness programs. Businesses are scored on the extent that their wellness programs facilitate and encourage employee health, enhance productivity and ensure a healthy work environment.
An awards ceremony is held in January in Columbus as part of the Health Action Council 2016 Annual Conference.
Other award winners in the large employer category with Union Hospital are Mount Carmel Health System, Mercy Medical Center, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, America Showa Inc., Ohio State University, Southern Ohio Medical Center, Youngstown State University, Lake Health, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Tri-Health and The Westfield Group.
