Area high school students are invited to learn more about a variety of careers in healthcare by attending one or all of the upcoming UH TECH Career Camps. Four Saturday morning camps are planned on January 16, February 20, March 19 and April 16, 2016. All camps are held at Union Hospital in Dover with students arriving at 8:45 a.m. and departing at noon.
UH TECH stands for Teens Exploring Careers in Healthcare and has helped hundreds of high school students be inspired to pursue a career in healthcare. Each UH TECH Career Camp session provides first-hand experience in departments of the hospital, learning from the professionals about their job, the technology they use, and the education needed to enter the field.
More information about the UH TECH Career Camps and registration can be found on the UH website: www.unionhospital.org Click on the “Employment Opportunities” button and then, “Learn About Careers in Healthcare.” For information or to register by phone call Holly Ripple in the UH Community Relations office at (330) 364-0884. Career Camp information is also available on the UH TECH Facebook page. Students should register for each event they are interested in attending.
The Career Camps will provide a wide range of experiences in the diagnostic, treatment, and nursing areas of the hospital. Students will also hear from physicians and learn more about education requirements and career opportunities.
The first Career Camp on January 16 will focus on Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging, Physical and Occupational Therapy, and CPR Basics.
The Career Camp on February 20 will take students to the Department of Surgery, into the Cardiology and Vascular testing areas, and into Nursing areas of the hospital.
A focus on physicians is planned for the Career Camp on March 19. Students will interact with three area doctors, learn about their practice and talk about the “real world” of being in a medical practice.
The final Career Camp of the year will be on April 16 for students to learn about forensic medicine, emergency medial air transport, and healthcare career education from the NEO Medical University.
After the final Career Camp event, graduating seniors will be invited to apply for a $1,000 UH TECH Scholarship award, given annually to a student who plans to continue their education after high school in a healthcare related field.
