Support Groups

Support groups are a very important part of the healthcare journey, whether you are a patient, family member or caregiver.

Groups currently hosted by Union Hospital:

Alzheimer's Association Support Group

This group is open to caregivers, family members and friends of persons with memory loss. The group is discussion-oriented, and topics are flexible, depending on the needs of the group's members. Guest speakers and relevant videos are occasionally presented.

  • Meetings: Third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.

Chronic Pain Support Group

Those with chronic pain and their families are welcome to attend these meetings. Meetings include group discussions, guest speakers and educational information related to medications, pain management, chronic pain conditions and treatment options.

  • Meetings: Second Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m.

Diabetes Support Group

This monthly meeting welcomes anybody with diabetes or friends and family members who care for a person with diabetes. Learn about blood sugar values, exercise, use of testing meters, diet and nutrition, and many other topics. Meetings are hosted by Union Hospital's diabetes educators and some programs include speakers.

Kidney Dialysis Support Group

Conducted by the Fresenius Dialysis Center at Monroe Center.

  • Meetings: Third Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m.

Living the Solution - Spinal Cord Injury Support Group

This is a support group for those recovering and living with a spinal cord injury and for those who help provide care.

  • Meetings: Second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m.
  • Location: Toomey Front Conference Room

"Look Good, Feel Better" - American Cancer Society Program

This is a free national program for women undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatments. The National Cosmetology Association, The American Cancer Society, and the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association partner to help with the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. Those attending this program receive a complementary make-up kit.

Stroke Support Group

For those recovering from a stroke and their family, friends and caregivers, the Stroke Support Group offers information and ideas to improve the quality of life and to better understand stroke recovery.

  • Meetings: Third Thursday of each month at 1 p.m., April through November
