Union Hospital is one of the area's largest charitable organizations. We were established over a century ago as a not-for-profit community hospital, and founded on the premise that our focus must be on quality healthcare for all patients, not the financial profits of a few investors. Union Hospital provides the same excellent quality of care to all patients, regardless of ability to pay. That belief is just as strong today as it was then.

But we can't do it without the philanthropy of individuals and organizations. Since 1906, gifts and grants have helped finance the growth and development of Union Hospital. Each year, hundreds of people and organizations choose to make gifts and bequests of all types and amounts. They have found their own goals and interests are fulfilled by supporting Union Hospital.

Your generous support can help ensure that quality healthcare will continue to be available for you, your family and friends.

Why Should I Make a Contribution to Union Hospital?

Charitable Care
Union Hospital is one of the largest charitable institutions in the area. Over the years we have provided free care for thousands of patients totaling millions of dollars. A sliding fee scale reduces hospital charges for patients with low incomes who qualify. All patients receive care, regardless of their ability to pay.

Expanded Services and New Technology
As we forge ahead to Build a More Perfect Union, we continue to expand local access to healthcare so patients do not have to leave the area for the care they require. Our Regional Cancer Center, expanded Emergency Department, and Pain Management Center are just a few examples of our commitment to providing quality care, close to home. Without the gifts provided by many donors each year, these large capital projects would not be possible, and the quality of local healthcare would be diminished.

Support of Programs or Services
Maybe a specific department or particular service has special meaning to you or your family. Designated gifts are often given to benefit the Maternity Department, Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, etc.

Tax Advantages
Most donors are able to combine their charitable interests with a tax saving by making a gift to Union Hospital. As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, cash gifts may be tax deductible. And don't forget, you may also realize substantial tax advantages in your estate planning by including Union Hospital.

What Are My Options?

Cash Gifts
Each year, hundreds of people make cash gifts to Union Hospital. All amounts are welcome and each gift may be made without restriction or be designated for a hospital service or program.

Gifts of Stocks, Bonds, Real Estate, or other Property
These types of gifts are always welcomed by the hospital and may provide the donor with substantial tax advantages. Talk with your financial advisor about the best way to make such a gift.

Wills and Bequests
For many people, this option provides great flexibility, security, and peace of mind. A bequest for Union Hospital in your will is a process easily accomplished in your estate planning. You may choose to inform Union Hospital of your estate planning or keep your plans confidential.

Trusts and other Planned Gifts
Some people combine their charitable interests with estate planning to create a trust that provides a lifetime income to them and their spouse, provides for their heirs, creates estate tax savings, and results in a substantial gift for Union Hospital.
