Union Hospital Achieves Certification as a Primary Stroke Center

Union Hospital achieved certification as a Primary Stroke Center, which means we have the proper equipment, personnel and training to quickly assess and treat strokes. A key element of the "Stroke Alert" protocols is the Telestroke Network, placing a Cleveland Clinic stroke specialist virtually at the patient's bedside to assist the Emergency Department staff in evaluation and treatment decisions.

The UH Certified Stoke Center offers a full range of stroke care from diagnosis and treatment, to rehabilitation, education and evaluating patient outcomes.

Commitment to Quality & Safety

Our goal is to not just meet, but exceed, your expectations for patient care. That's our commitment to quality and safety. To that end, we measure many aspects of our patient care, safety, and service to determine if we are providing the best care possible. We then compare that information to that of other hospitals, set goals, and continually work toward even better performance.

Public Disclosure of Findings

Just as important as constantly monitoring performance and outcomes is being transparent about those findings. That's why we provide regular updates about Union Hospital's quality and performance data.

This information is just one of several publicly available sources about the quality and performance of hospitals. Others include Medicare's Hospital Compare tool.

DNV Accreditation

DNV Accreditation

Union Hospital is accredited by the DNV Healthcare Inc., which means that the hospital has demonstrated compliance with national standards for patient safety and quality of care.

Union Hospital is genuinely concerned about performance improvement and patient safety. In response, the Board of Directors and Administration made the decision to invite DNV Healthcare, Inc. to conduct a full survey of the Hospital.

Philosophically, Union Hospital views the survey not as a one-time "inspection" of compliance with standards but rather a continual learning experience. We embrace the opportunity to have key processes validated and welcome recommendations for improvement.

Any recommendations for improvement or consultative advice that occurs as a result of the survey are taken seriously. Proactive steps are initiated in concert with management, staff, and the medical staff under full view of the Board of Directors.

Patients and family members may submit a complaint regarding this accredited hospital.

ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems Certification

Union Hospital is now certified as an ISO 9001:2008, Quality Management Systems compliant organization. This certification is accredited by DNV Certification Inc. of Houston TX.

ISO 9001 is a standard related to quality management systems and designed to help organizations ensure that they meet the needs of customers, shareholders and employees allowing Union Hospital to develop sustainable performance.

The certification of compliance with ISO 9001:2008 recognizes that the policies, practices and procedures of Union Hospital ensure consistent quality services we provide to our patients. While the ISO 9001 certification process is better known within industry, Carol Murphy RN, UH Director of Quality Improvement, says the ISO management standards are applicable to healthcare to improve all aspects of their operations.
